A score above 200 and up to 400 means people are at serious risk under the current conditions. Measures have to be taken now, not planned for later.
What it asks of you
- Take measures straight away and make someone responsible for them.
- Until the measures are in place, limit the work to what is necessary and make sure the personal protection named on the SDS is used.
- Reassess as soon as the measures are in place.
How to bring it down
A Critical score usually comes from a high effect combined with weak protection. Moving up the probability scale is the first step: divide 70 by effect × exposure to see which probability reaches Medium. If the effect is high, consider whether a less hazardous product can do the job.
Example
A product with H317 and H334 has an effect of 15 + 15 = 30. It is used Frequently (3) with Personal protection only (3):
30 × 3 × 3 = 270, Critical.
