Stop, above 400
A Fine & Kinney score above 400. Stop activities under current conditions.
Stop activities under current conditions.
A score above 400 means the work cannot continue the way it is done now. Stop the activity until measures bring the score down.
What it asks of you
- Stop the activity with this product at this workplace under the current conditions.
- Decide how the work can be done differently: another product, a closed process, or far less exposure.
- Only restart once a reassessment gives a lower band.
How to bring it down
At this level a single measure is often not enough. Work through all three factors:
- Probability: enclose the process or combine technical controls with personal protection.
- Exposure: do the task less often and for a shorter time.
- Effect: replace the product with one that carries fewer or milder H-statements.
Example
A product with H330 and H314 has an effect of 40 + 15 = 55. It is used for up to 4 hours a day, High exposure (6), with Inadequate protection (6):
55 × 6 × 6 = 1,980, Stop.
| Change | Score | Band |
|---|---|---|
| Adequate controls (0.51) | 168.3 | High |
| Closed system (0.2) | 66 | Medium |
| Closed system (0.2) and Occasional exposure (1.5) | 16.5 | Low |
