Getting Started

Welcome to the NextSDS documentation.

NextSDS is a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) management platform that helps HSE managers maintain chemical safety compliance across their organisation.

Get started

NextSDS follows a progressive risk assessment workflow. Every product gets basic safety documentation, most get a workplace risk assessment, and higher-risk chemicals get increasingly detailed analysis.

  1. Upload or search for SDS documents. Build your product catalogue in the Library.

  2. Set up your workplace locations. Create Workplaces that represent physical areas, worker profiles, or processes where chemicals are used.

  3. Create Safety Instruction Cards. Generate a Safety Instruction Card for every product.

  4. Run RECESS risk assessments. Open each workplace's Inventory to score every chemical using the RECESS method (Risk = Effect × Exposure × Probability).

  5. Run EMKG assessments for higher-risk chemicals. For products flagged by RECESS, run a detailed EMKG assessment to determine the required control level, from basic hygiene practices up to fully enclosed systems.

  6. Simulate exposure for the highest-risk substances. For the most hazardous products, use the ECETOC TRA simulation to model predicted inhalation and dermal exposure against occupational exposure limits.

Stay compliant

  • Horizon Scanning monitors regulatory changes that may affect your chemical inventory.
  • Compliance Reports generate audit-ready reports covering your full chemical inventory.

Set up your workspace

  • Categories and Labels organise products with taxonomy rules and custom labels.
  • Safety Portal publishes safety information to a public-facing portal for workers and visitors.
  • Search and Substance Search help you find products and chemical substances across your library.
  • Settings lets you manage your team, users, API keys, and profile.
