Generate a CLP label
Create CLP-compliant hazard labels for chemical containers in standard or Avery label sizes, and save them for reuse.
Generate a printed label that meets CLP/GHS labelling requirements. The label shows the product name, GHS pictograms, signal word, hazard statements, and supplier information. You can save multiple label variants per product and reuse them later.
Create a CLP label
Open a product from your library, then select Generate CLP Label in the Actions panel. The wizard guides you through four steps.
Step 1: Select SDS
A product can have more than one SDS linked to it, in different languages or for different markets. Pick the one the label should be based on. Each row shows the product name, language, target markets, and the date it was last updated.
When the product has only one linked SDS, NextSDS selects it and moves you on to the next step.
Step 2: Choose Label
Select New CLP Label to start from scratch. If you have previously saved labels for this product, they appear here as cards showing the label name, size format, and creation date. Select any saved label to load its settings and edit it.
Step 3: Label Settings
Label Format: select the label size.

Every size prints the same information. A smaller label prints it smaller, it does not leave anything out. On the smallest sizes a long product name is cut off where the QR code starts, so check that the name still reads correctly before you print a batch.
Label Content: optionally add:
- Product ID / Batch Number: your internal lot or batch reference
- Expiry Date: chemical shelf life
- Print Date: defaults to today
- Additional Information: custom text such as storage instructions
Display options:
- Show hazard statements (H-codes): on by default
- Show precautionary statements (P-codes): off by default
- Include QR code: links to the full SDS online (on by default)
Each statement prints with its code, so H225 Highly flammable liquid and vapour. rather than the sentence on its own.
Choose which statements to print
Switch either set on and NextSDS lists the statements from the SDS, each with a checkbox. All of them start selected, so the label carries the whole classification. Clear one to leave it off this label. Select all and Clear move the entire list, and the counter next to them shows how many you kept.
A saved label remembers the ones you cleared, not the ones you kept. So when your supplier sends a revision that adds a statement, that statement appears on the label instead of being quietly left out.
CLP expects at most six precautionary statements on a label, unless the hazards call for more, so this is where you trim them. Hazard statements work the other way: the label is expected to carry every one that applies.
Step 4: Preview & Save
Review the label preview. From this step you can:
- Download PDF: select Download PDF to save the label file to your computer.
- Save CLP Label: select Save CLP Label to store this label with your product. Enter a name in the Label Name field of the pop-up window.
If you started from New CLP Label and the product already has saved labels, the pop-up window also offers Replace existing label, so you can overwrite one of them instead of adding another. If you opened a saved label to edit it, saving overwrites that label.
Saved labels appear in Choose Label the next time you open the CLP Label wizard for this product. Each saved label stores the full configuration, so you can regenerate or update it at any time.
What to do next
Create a chemical safety card for the same product. The label goes on the container, the card goes at the workplace.
